Map Controls & Layers
Four base layers to choose from. Pinch to zoom, drag to pan, tap to interact. Every other feature in FieldOps happens on top of this map.
The Four Layers
Street
Standard OpenStreetMap. Best for roads, addresses, urban navigation. Default for Tactical ops.
Satellite
Aerial imagery. Best for identifying buildings, vegetation, access roads, and terrain features you can actually see. Default for Recovery.
Topographic
Contour lines, elevation shading. Essential for wildland fire (slope and aspect) and SAR (terrain analysis). Default for Fire and SAR.
Hybrid
Satellite imagery with road and label overlay. Best of both worlds when you need to know what a place looks like and what it's called.
FieldOps remembers your last layer choice per operation. If you always use Topo on fires and Satellite on recoveries, it'll open the right layer next time you tap the operation.
Other Controls
Pinch / Zoom Buttons
Two-finger pinch on the map, or tap the + / − buttons on the right side. Same result either way.
Pan
Drag with one finger. Map stays where you dragged it until you tap Recenter (the crosshair button) to snap back to your GPS.
Rotate
Two-finger twist on the map. Useful for orienting the map the same direction you're facing. Tap the compass button (⟲) to snap back to north-up.
Tap on a Pin
Opens a popup with the pin's details — title, coordinates, notes, who dropped it, when. Tap Navigate to open turn-by-turn directions in your phone's map app. Tap Edit to change it (if you have permission).
